Trail Options

You will be asked on the Order Form to choose which of thes two trails you wish to take on your half-day tour.

SAXON MOUNTAIN (Lamartine and Molly Brown Mine) - 11,546 feet
A mix of Easy and Moderate trails. Lamartine mine, Molly Brown mine and panoramic views from top of Saxon Mountain.

The Saxon Mountain Trail is a network of old mining roads with significant mining history. Evidence of the past abounds although not always very visible. The East portion of this trail goes past the very productive Lamartine Mine and other mines. The west portion of the trail is a loop that takes you to Saxon Mountain at 11,546 feet above sea level and along the way you will pass the Molly Brown Mine and cabins. This trail system is pretty bumpy and rocky, with some difficult portions, but great on an ATV with full independent suspension!

KINGSTON PEAK/YANKEE HILL - 11,000 feet
Moderately steep and rocky in places, views of St. Mary's Glacier and Lock Lomond.

The Kingston Peak/Yankee Hill trail begins near Central City with easy terrain and eventually narrows and becomes rockier. The Kingston Peak portion of the trail directs you north through Miners Gulch and bends around over Kingston Peak and eventually takes you towards St. Mary's Alice (a year round Glacier) with great views of Lock Lomond, an alpine lake. The other portion of the trail takes you to Yankee Hill which is a more direct route to Alice but slightly more difficult and not as long.

Weather Conditions

Colorado has the greatest number of sunny days in the country on average, but it is also known for summer showers and variable weather patterns. Tours go on rain or shine, barring severe thunderstorms or unseasonably cold temperatures mixed with precipitation that could cause health issues. ~ Long Pants & Long Sleeve Shirt
~ Boots or Sneakers - NO SANDALS, MUST BE CLOSED TOE SHOES!
~ Light/Medium Weight Jacket - the weather can change 30 degrees in 10 minutes!
~ Hat
~ Rain Slickers
~ Water
~ Snacks or Lunch
~ Camera
~ Binoculars
~ Sunscreen
~ Sunglasses

Meeting Times - Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled tour departure and be prompt so that we can process you and roll out with ease.
